Plant Transformation Optimization Specialist

Plastomics is an early stage plant biotechnology company making more effective crops through its innovative chloroplast transformation platform. We are seeking to hire dynamic, self-motivated and pro-active Plant Transformation Optimization Scientists who are committed and passionate about developing next-generation solutions to address global food challenges.

The Plant Transformation Optimization Scientist position is a hands-on, lab-based role responsible for effective troubleshooting and putting ideas into action. You will ensure experiments are executed efficiently and correctly, while taking initiative to improve protocols where necessary. The right candidate enjoys a “start-up” atmosphere and is flexible, shows good judgment, takes initiative and is willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team. We are located in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Relocation assistance is available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement novel approaches to chloroplast and nuclear transformation in soybean and/or corn
  • Collaborate closely with other cell biologists while also independently performing all duties in the laboratory required for individual projects.
  • Contribute to development of project plans and long-range goals of the plant transformation team
  • Regular and clear communication of research progress and results to team members and company leadership
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of project data and other materials as needed

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 10+ years’ relevant post-graduate experience in tissue culture and transformation, PhD preferred. Senior team members must have 15+ years’ relevant experience.
  • Independent and able to perform under tight timelines and with the agility to change course as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and take on new assignments as necessary in a fast-moving startup atmosphere
  • Excellent planner, organizer, critical thinker, and problem solver, with a demonstrated ability to efficiently execute project tasks
  • Familiarity with molecular biology, plant gene expression and transformation vector technologies a plus

The Plant Transformation Lead will lead our transformation strategy and will be expected to contribute intellectually to the company’s goals. This is a hands-on, lab-based role responsible for putting ideas into action. The candidate will work at the bench with other cell and molecular biologists in a collaborative and cross-functional atmosphere. The right candidate is flexible, shows good judgment, takes initiative and is willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team. Molecular Biologist

We seek a highly motivated and entrepreneurial-minded Plant Molecular Biologist with expertise in molecular cloning techniques to join our fast-paced and exciting discovery team effort. We are located in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri. We seek candidates that will thrive in an exciting, new technology start-up atmosphere.

Position Summary

We seek an expert molecular biologist to lead transformation vector development and transgene expression analysis for chloroplast transformation technologies across multiple crops. The successful candidate will work primarily at the bench, will be expected to contribute intellectually to team and company goals. The candidate should be an excellent “cloner” with skills in the latest high throughput cloning approaches. The Plant Molecular Biologist will work closely with other cell and molecular biologists in a collaborative and cross-functional atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement transformation vector development strategies, including transgene expression approaches and subsequent analysis of transgenic events for both chloroplast and nuclear transgenic plants
• Work independently at the bench to execute molecular cloning strategies using standard and high- throughput cloning techniques
• Perform transgenic plant analyses, including DNA, RNA and protein detection and quantification
• Maintain detailed and organized records of project data and other materials as needed
• Maintain regular and clear communication of research progress and results to team members and leadership

Education and Experience:

MS with at least 10 years or PhD with at least 5 years post-graduate experience in plant molecular biology
• Proven track record of success and hands-on experience in plant transformation vector development, transgene expression elements, and transgene analysis, preferably in an industrial or large academic setting
• Independent and entrepreneurial, able to perform under tight timelines and with the agility to change course as needed.
• Ability to multi-task and take on new assignments as necessary in a fast-moving startup atmosphere
• Excellent planner, organizer, critical thinker, and problem solver, with a demonstrated ability to efficiently execute project tasks
• Strong familiarity with plant transformation technologies
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
